OSSA

OSSA is a local NGO founded in May 1989 with branch offices through out the country.
In Amhara region OSSA has offices in Bahir Dar, Debre Markose, Gondar, and Dessie with the following major activities:

Community Based Home Care, Establishing and strengthening Anti-AIDS clubs (AACs), Income generating program (IGA), Hot-line counseling service, Awareness creating program and Establishing Youth Centers

CVM

CVM's objective is to reduce new HIV infections through behavioral change in Amhara Region.  CVM focuses   in 6 zones; North Gondar, South Gondar, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, Bahir Dar and Awi.

Participants are encouraged to develop a sense of ownership of the program. Committees at community level will be the forum to co-ordinate, develop skills and capacities in an integrated manner.
CVM is working together with HAPCC and HAPCO at different level and it has offices and zonal facilitators in Bahir Dar, Gondar, Debre Markos, Debre Tabor, Injibara and Bure.

CARE Ethiopia (Bahir Dar)

Goal:

  • To decrease the prevalence of HIV infection among youth ages 10-24 years in Bahir Dar 

Objectives:

  • To decrease the transmission of HIV/AIDS among boys and girls ages 10-24 by reinforcing risk reduction behaviors.
  • To promote youth-friendly approaches and improve the quality of voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) and sexually transmitted infection (STI) services at health facilities and youth centers.
  •  To strengthen the care and support services for PLWHA and their families.
  • To combat gender based violence such as early/forced marriage, rape and abduction and promote the human rights of women and girls.
Target
  • The proposed interventions will directly benefit all adolescents/youth between the ages of 10-024 (both male & female) and women of reproductive  age (15 to 49 years old) and also indirectly benefit the remaining population of Bahir Dar.

Red Cross Society

Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) has started a nation wide HIV/AIDS prevention, advocacy and care program since 2001, supported by sister national societies NGO's and national HIV/AIDS prevention and control office.  In Amhara region 5 ERCS zonal branches are involved with HIV/AIDS prevention, advocacy and care program in the following components: Peer education for youths, Advocacy, Home Based Care and  IEC

Save the Children UK

Save the Children UK (SCUK) is the leading UK charity working to create a better world for children in over seventy countries. 

SCUK has maintained a continuous presence in the Amhara National Regional State of Ethiopia since 1984. SCUK has accumulated specialized knowledge in a number of areas, including health and HIV/AIDS, and has an in depth understanding of working with communities and building institutional capacity at the local government level.

SCUK has 14 years experience of HIV/AIDS programming in Ethiopia.   Presently, SCUK is  implementing HIV/AIDS projects in the Amhara and Somali regions.

 With a child rights focus and extensive previous experience of implementing HIV/AIDS programs in Ethiopia, SCUK is well placed for mobilizing and building the capacity of communities to implement HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support activities.

Dawn of Hope

Dawn of Hope was found in 1998 by a small group of HIV-positive people who wanted to contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia and to promote the rights, the needs for care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. 

With over 6000 members and 10 implementing branch offices in Addis Ababa, Nazreth, Debre Zeyt, Debre Birhan, Awasa, Shashemene, Dilla, Harar, Bahir Dar and Humera, Dawn of Hope continues to establish new branch offices to cover as many needy areas and communities as possible.

Mekdim

Mekdim Ethiopia is a national association established in 1997 by people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and AIDS orphans. 

Mekdim believes that PLWHA and AIDS orphans should play an active role in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It is our commitment

to promote human rights for PLWHAs and AIDS orphans;

to provide care and support to those infected and affected by the epidemic; and

to educate and promote behavior change among the public at large

  •    Provide financial and material support to our members
  •    Provide Home based care and medical services to AIDS patients and orphans
  •   Provide social and psychological supports
  •    Provide Counseling services to all in need in the project area

Youth Association

The Amhara Youth Association was established on July 2003 and to date with 233,500 active members. Membership is open to all between 15 to 35 years of age.

Major Activities and Achievement

Training of youth as peer educators for Anti AIDS campaigns
HIV Awareness raising to more than 140000 youth and adults
Education on HIV AIDS transmission and prevention methods
Training to 30,000 youth on environment protection activities
Establish of recreation centers
Financial Source include members contribution, donation from national and international organizations, income generating activities such as music festival.
