Addis Ababa, December 10 (WIC) - The 13th World Congress on Public Health (WCPH) will take place in Ethiopia from April 23-27, 2012 according to the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA).
EPHA President, Dr Tewabech Bishaw, and Health Minister, Dr Tedros Adhanom, at a joint press conference they held on ICASA 2011 sideline said the Congress will be held under the theme: “Towards Global Health Equity: Opportunities and Threats.”
Some 3,000 participants, consisting of public health researchers, scientists, educators, programmers, policy makers and student representatives from around the world are expected to take part at the Congress, they said.
“Having Ethiopia host this international Congress will create an opportunity for concerned organizations and individuals to gain a greater understanding of international public health issues, approaches and strategies,” Dr Tewabech said.
“The Congress will further help promote Ethiopia at the international level,” she added. According to Dr Tewabech, preparations are nearing completion to successfully host the Congress.
Health Minister, Dr Tedros Adhanom, on his part said that the congress will serve as an international forum for the exchange of knowledge and experiences on key public health issues.
He added that health professionals working in different agencies in Ethiopia will have an opportunity to participate in the Congress as well as interact with their international counterparts.
